TheatreCMS has a content model designed for how performing arts organizations actually work. Seasons, productions, works, performers, and performances are built in as first-class concepts.
The content model
Most CMSes have posts and pages. That works for blogs, but it doesn't match how performing arts organizations work.
TheatreCMS is built on the structure that already exists in your world:
- Seasons — The container for everything. "2024-2025 Season" holds all your productions.
- Productions — A show you're producing. "Hamilton," "Swan Lake," "The Mozart Requiem."
- Works — The piece itself: the play written by a playwright, the ballet choreographed by a choreographer, the opera composed by a composer. Works exist independently—"Hamilton" stays in your system even after the production closes.
- People — Performers, directors, choreographers, composers, designers, crew. Manage once, appear everywhere they're involved.
- Performances — Individual shows within a production. Dates, times, venues, ticket links. Each gets its own page on your site.
- Venues — Where you perform. Manage once, reuse across productions.
- Pages — For static content (About, Donate, Contact, History).
Content connects automatically
Add a performer once. They appear across all productions, works, and performances they're involved with. Update their bio and it changes everywhere at once.
Built for your workflow
You think in terms of seasons and productions. TheatreCMS mirrors that structure. No workarounds. No fighting the CMS.
Works across genres
Whether you're theater, dance, opera, symphony, or mixed ensemble, the content model works. Works, seasons, performers, venues—it's all there.
Ticket links, simple integration
Link to Eventbrite, Showare, or Ticketmaster on each performance. Your ticketing system stays independent; TheatreCMS makes it easy to link.
What doesn't change
TheatreCMS is a website content management platform. It handles how you manage and display information about your productions and events. It does NOT handle:
- Ticketing — You keep using Eventbrite, Showare, Ticketmaster, or whatever you have. We integrate with it.
- Email marketing — Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc. continue to work exactly as before.
- Donations — Your donation system stays independent.
- Box office — Internal tools for managing shows and schedules stay as they are.
Purpose-built, not adapted
Most CMSes have posts and pages. Adapt them enough and you can make them work for performing arts. TheatreCMS starts from your structure. Seasons, productions, works, people, performances—they're built in from the ground up. That's the difference.
How it works
Once you're live, managing your site is straightforward. You log in and see a dashboard with your content types:
- Add a new production—fill in name, synopsis, cast, performance dates
- The system automatically creates pages for each performance with all the info
- Update cast info once, it updates everywhere on your site
- Archive past seasons, highlight current ones
- All without touching any code or worrying about WordPress updates
